 BERJ KARAZIAN
TENOR

As a gifted lyric tenor, Berj Karazian has dedicated himself to his love of singing by defying the odds and never losing sight of his goal—opera. Singing in a warm graceful voice with a bright, full timbre that is strong but not heavy, Berj has built a repertoire that is sure to take him to a worldwide audience.

After completing a full course in 2000 as the last vocal student of Professor Tatevik Sazandaryan (soprano; born: 1916-2000)* at Yerevan’s Komitas State Conservatory (KSC)**, Professor Sazandaryan stated that she regretted that she would not live long enough to see her protégé’s unquestionable success. As a graduate of KSC, Berj Karazian became qualified as a concert and opera singer and vocal art teacher. He continued his studies at KSC completing his post graduate work in 2003 studying under Professor Gayane Geghamyan.
A great-grandson of a priest who had a voice that enraptured his congregants, the vocal future of the Karazian descendents was uncertain. Then a genetic miracle occurred with the birth of a young lad in Armenia, prior to independence in 1992.

Mr. Karazian has performed in Armenia, Cyprus, Greece, Serbia, Syria and Lebanon as well as done solo concerts in Armenia, France, Italy and Syria. BERJ KARAZIAN

*Tatevik Sazandarian, (b.1916-2000) considered one of Armenia’s greatest soprano vocalists, had a unique and pure voice, a natural way of producing sounds, attracting the attention of specialists. In 1937 Ms. Sazandarian was invited to take the position of a soloist in the recently established Yerevan State Opera Theater. She was equally a great master of chamber vocal-pieces singing. She premiered numerous works created especially for her by known Armenian composers. In her huge repertoire, there were over 450 songs brilliantly performed by the singer during her long, creative life.
Tatevik Sazandarian has a very special position of the artist who, in her unique singing, combined the harmony of Western classical and Armenian traditional music, which is what placed her on the highest step of vocal and stage mastery.

**Yerevan Komitas State Conservatory was founded in 1921 in Yerevan firstly as a music studio. On its basis, on October 1, 1923, Yerevan State Conservatory was opened. Yerevan Conservatory is the only musical institution of higher education in Armenia. Throughout all these years the Conservatory has prepared many generations of graduates-musicians, who have performed on the best stages of the world.
